What is a netbook?

A netbook is a portable computer designed primarily for use with internet-based applications, characterised by very small dimensions, high battery autonomy, often only a solid-state drive (though plenty of models have hard disks too, but they consume way more battery power), and often run Windows XP.

They are typically intended for undemanding applications, i.e. basic surfing, email and office applications, when you are on the road and do not even want to carry a bulky laptop around with you. The small format makes netbooks ideal to whip out of a bag when you are in a cafe and surf for something, catch up with your email or do some word-processing.

You wouldn’t want to work for too long on a netbook – the keyboard can be fairly cramped and the screen too, but you don’t need to, that’s the point of the format! And with more and more refurbished and used netbooks coming onto the market, you can now pick one up for a song, right here on usednetbooks.info!
